If you’ve never thought about what the colour of your house says about you, now is the time to change that. Maybe you’re stuck with your siding, but let’s bluesky for a minute and imagine you could have any colour under the sun on or in your house. What would you pick and what does that say about your personality?
These descriptions are very loosely rooted in colour psychology, but we want to stress this is for fun. Colour can influence our lives and picking one you don’t love can most certainly ruin a room, but there is no wrong choice when it comes to colours, only your choice.
Let’s start with the conventional tones, the browns, beiges, creams and whites.
Brown – if you gravitate towards brown, earthy tones you’re as comfortable and comforting as a hot cup of joe. Don’t listen to the people who lived through brown’s heyday in the 70s. Brown has come a long way from being paired with orange and avocado shades. Today, choosing brown for your paint colour is seen as a solid and distinguished choice. Grey/beige – if shades of grey are your top pick, you are a trendy and sophisticated type. Not one to flaunt, you know how great you are and are happy letting your personality shine without calling attention to yourself. You’re dignified and you like things just so. Maybe learn to live a little, a touch of colour never hurt anyone.
Cream and white – sophisticated much? You’ve got it all together and probably had the most difficult job of all choosing your shade. There is so much variety when it comes to white and cream tones, you have to know exactly what you want. Luckily, you do. You are a pulled-together individual who is decisive and calm. You wouldn’t describe yourself as pure as the driven snow; you definitely give off an anything is possible vibe.
Now we’ll take a look at the warm colours – red, orange, yellow and pink.
Red – what can we say? You’re a firecracker. Or, you need a bit of excitement in your life. If you’ve just come to love red, take a look at what’s going on in your world. Are you trying to reinvent yourself? If you’ve always loved red, read on because you are an exciting powerhouse of a human. Red is primal, it’s full of vim, it’s the colour of love and sex. Orange – welp, you’re a weirdo. A positive, sociable and very secure weirdo, but a weirdo nonetheless. If orange is your colour of choice, you’ve got a freshness and zest to you that not many people can top. You’re warm, you’re welcoming, but you can be a bit much at times – a sensory overload. Find someone who loves aqua or green to temper your sunny self.
Yellow – Hello, sunshine. You, my friend, are the trickiest sort. The right yellow can make everything all right. Bright and energetic, you can make any day the greatest day. You stand for intellect, knowledge and understanding. The flip side isn’t so pretty, as you might be too much as the main attraction. You’re a polarizing type who can turn a bit sickly in the wrong light and we have it on good authority, yellow can cause arguments. But keep shining, we all could use some more yellow in our lives.
Pink – Pale, pastel and all the way to hot, pink is the chameleon on the colour wheel. You can be sweet, cool and sophisticated, or downright spicy. Whatever your shade of pink, know you attract all the right attention. You mix with every other colour just perfectly and turn heads wherever you go. Let’s not even get started on all the symbolism you embody. Pink is what everyone secretly wants to be.
Moving into the cooler spectrum, we’ve got blue, green and aqua.
Green – The colour of youth, growth, ecology, relaxation, balance and optimism, green is just great. Always contemporary, you never go out of style. Sure, the shade may change with the decades, but green is always in. You are practical, down to earth, caring and everybody loves you.
Blue – You smartypants, you. Blue is the colour of business. If you have an affinity for blue, you are a natural authority and have a knack for calm and concentration. Like a big, open sky, you see all of life’s possibilities. Your ability to blur hard lines makes you a favourite choice inside and out.
Aqua – Picture yourself on the shores of a stunning alpine lake. The feeling of looking into a calm, cool pool is just what being around an aqua lover conjures up. The saying “still waters run deep” was created just for you aqua types. You are a calm and relaxed person, but if you’re looking to saucy up your life, find someone who embodies orange. You won’t be sorry.
The forgotten shades and the deepest ones, let’s discuss purple and black.
Purple – Do you have royal blood in your veins? Even if there’s no DNA evidence to back this up, purple people are true aristocrats. You are noble, righteous and most certainly have a taste for the finer things in life. You are deeply connected to your higher self and peeking through the veil that separates this world and the next is easy for you. You are sociable yet austere, dignified but homey, and most of all serene.
Black – We did save the best for last. Black is stylish. Black cannot be overdone. You are sophisticated and everything and everyone looks better next to you. Mature without coming across as old, you provide sanctuary and the perfect counterpoint to all. Just remember to let some colour into your life so you don’t become a cold, moody, calculating dark hole that nobody wants to be around.
